Disclaimer: This is not a male bashing poem. In the current scenario of so much going on against women, and women protesting for basic human rights, this poem is a humble understanding of my lived in experience and in solidarity towards those fighting for a better world.

If I ever have a daughter, I’d sit with her and caress her hair as I’d teach her –
Dearest, let me tell you… Not All Men
Not All Men are kind
Please keep that in mind
Not All Men are to be considered brave
You should see them for how they behave
Not All Men are created the same
if they are devoid of guilt and shame
Not All Men fight for what’s right
if they ignore the injustice in sight
Not All Men are supportive and strong
if they fuel systems and beliefs that are wrong
Not All Men are to be assumed wise
if they lie to you and cheat you in disguise
Not All Men are to be considered true
if the rules they create restrict you
Not All Men dearest, are to be considered honest
If they don’t bat an eye, as you work, and they rest
Kindness, empathy and humility, are genderless values, you see
They do not come free or are ingrained into a specific body
Your decisions and actions reflect your truth
therefore intoxicated with the power of youth
When you start to hope for a love that you see
flourishing between Mommy and Daddy
Dearest, I want you to know, that a creation
is in the end, a creator’s extension
So if someone builds you prisons grey
while someone else tend to an array
Of fruit bearing trees, dearest you’d know
who’d probably walk through the snow
To build a fire that’d keep you warm
Dearest, don’t be forever alarmed
Just see men and women for who they are
It’s not kismet, nor written in the stars
It’s in the truth of the karma they create
Not All Men are subjected to the same fate

I think the poem touched many important facts and values very gracefully and maturely. I loved it!
